Leading interdisciplinary teams to develop solutions to strategic business problems and recover failing projects. Currently leading a nine person team to deliver 2 x £1m capital expenditure projects; on track to deliver £750k/yr of business benefit and £950k savings against budget. Leading regular project reviews with Executive stakeholders.
Subject matter expert for development, maintenance and improvement of data sets and automated analysis tools in Power BI, SharePoint, MS Project Server and Excel. Gleaning important information from complex data sets and delivering findings to senior management in a coherent and actionable way.
Project Manager (Ventilator Challenge UK), March – June 2020
Reported into the lead Programme Manager for the consortium of aerospace, automotive and medical manufacturers that produced 13,437 ventilators in 12wks (20yrs normal production). Achieved MHRA regulatory approval in 3wks. Onboarded 5,000 people in 6wks. See the Microsoft site for more details.
Led intercompany BOM capability analysis. Pulled high performance teams together in a dynamic, uncertain and extreme pressure environment. Administered Executive Committee calls. Crisis management of a high and diverse workload. Took two products from problem definition to delivery in an unfamiliar industry.
Design Engineer for Project Spiritus; a rapidly manufacturable simplified ventilator.
Manufacturing Engineer (Meggitt Fire and Safety Systems, California, USA), March 2019 – January 2020
New equipment introduction in a rigorous production environment. Programmed automated manufacturing equipment and standardised systems to reduce rework while maintaining compatibility with legacy designs. Completed setup, V&V and training. Wrote procedures on work instructions, routers, PFMEA, 6S, design of experiments and problem solving. Conducted investigations into on-aircraft failures for a tier-1 customer.
Maintained a coherent view on complex processes for diverse products. Delivered solutions to meet unwritten requirements by working closely with production staff to deeply understanding processes and problems.
Lead Design Engineer: High Temperature Sensor Redesign (Meggitt Sensing, Basingstoke, UK), June 2018 – March 2019
Developed a trusting relationship with Teir-1 customer to allow rapid progress through product redesign and qualification.
Led change justification and customer facing design reviews. Launched DO-160 qualification testing. Technical lead for supplier negotiation which reduced cost and lead time by €450k and 6wks (£180k value) respectively.
Led small engineering teams to deliver technical drawings, analysis and review packages within tight timelines and in challenging circumstances (site closure and broad redundancies). Conducted multiple deep technical and statistical analyses, solely responsible for solving several site level production halts and preventing reoccurrence.
R&D Engineer: Meggitt Modular Modifiable Manufacturing (M4) (Meggitt PLC, Coventry, UK), September 2017 – June 2018
Led the integration of several prototype systems, gave many successful demonstrations including to Government Funding Providers, Operators and C-Level Executives. Deployed real-time location systems, produced smart delivery hardware and developed simulations.
Balanced competing requirements and priorities while keeping external stakeholders engaged and accountable. Wrote a published article and produced a promotional video.
University Roles, October 2014 – July 2017
President of the ACSE Society: Elected leader of 350 member (63% international) departmental society. Guided the team, resolved conflicts and led volunteers. Skills: leadership, concise communication, influencing without authority.
Engineering Faculty Committee Representative: Roles largely around teaching and examination, developed a more effective plagiarism policy. Skills: Representation and negotiation on behalf of others, delivering constructive feedback.
Senior STEM Champion: Outreach initiative to promote STEM fields to disadvantaged candidates. Led demonstrations for the public and often spoke to large audiences. Skills: presentation, public speaking, generating enthusiasm.
Friday Club Vice President, 2011 – 2012
Friday club is a student-run, self-funded, after-college community club which provides activities and light catering for mentally and physically challenged members of community. This allows the members one-to-one and group interaction with other young people, while also providing vital respite for their carers. I received a College Colours award for this position.
